Biography

Jamie began playing drums at the age of 10, with much of his formative years spent playing in brass bands and volunteering with the carnival arts organisation, Global Grooves, where he got the opportunity to participate twice on the residential arts course, Future Leaders. He also took part on the Brighter Sound youth project, My Music, My Manchester, led by artist-in-residence Meklit Hadero, where he got the opportunity to perform at The BBC Philharmonic Studio in Media City, Salford with Manchester Camerata Orchestra. Shortly after completing school, he achieved a distinction in his Trinity Grade 8 drums exam.

He then studied popular music performance at The Manchester College, at which time he got his first taste of playing live jazz on Munch Manship’s Jazz Foundations course, as well as commencing 1-1 study with renown UK drum teacher Dave Hassell. This led him to gain a place on the National Youth Jazz Collective summer short course. When he was 17, he won The Robinson Award from the organisation Future Talent. Jamie then went on to study jazz drum kit at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for 3 years and since moving back to Manchester in July 2024 he has continued to progress his career.

Jamie currently teaches drums at Riffs Music Academy, Tameside Music Service, several schools in the Tameside and Oldham areas, and plays with bands Legs on Wheels, Thiara Collective, and co-leads jazz trio, Turns, with Manchester based musicians Andy Potts and Barry Donohue.
