About

Jamie began playing drums at the age of 10, with much of his formative years spent playing in brass bands and volunteering with the carnival arts organisation, Global Grooves, where he got the opportunity to participate twice on the residential arts course, Future Leaders, studying with master drummers and percussionists such as Steve White (Paul Weller/The Style Council), Dembele Sidiki and Johnny Kalsi. He also took part on the Brighter Sound youth project, My Music, My Manchester, led by artist-in-residence Meklit Hadero, where he got the opportunity to perform at The BBC Philharmonic Studio in Media City, Salford with Manchester Camerata Orchestra. Shortly after completing school, he achieved a distinction in his Trinity Grade 8 drums exam.

He then studied popular music performance at The Manchester College, at which time he got his first taste of playing live jazz on Munch Manship’s Jazz Foundations course, as well as commencing 1-1 study with renown UK drum teacher Dave Hassell. This led him to gain a place on the National Youth Jazz Collective summer short course, as well as winning The Robinson Award from the organisation Future Talent.

Jamie then went on to study jazz drum kit at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for 3 years, one of the UK’s most prestigious music universities. During his time in Birmingham he got the opportunity to study with some of the UK’s best drummers and tutors, such as Andrew Bain, Winston Clifford, Shaney Forbes and Mike Williams. He also participated in a residency led by avant-garde New York saxophonist Tim Berne and pianist Liam Noble, as well as doing session work for pop artist Ronzoni Hines.

Since moving back to Manchester in July 2024 he has continued to progress his career, working as a drum teacher in multiple schools and music academies across the Greater Manchester area, as well as performing in venues such as Aviva Studios, Band on the Wall and Matt n’ Phred’s, among others. In December of 2025 he even got the opportunity to tour the French Alps for 3 weeks with the Apres Ski band Goldstruck, playing 15 gigs in multiple venues across ski resorts such as Les Deux Alpes, Meribel, La Plagne, Morzine and Chamonix.

He currently plays with Manchester-based bands Legs on Wheels and Thiara Collective, as well as teaching drums at Jamm Studios in St. Helen. Outside of music Jamie has also competed in 4 triathlons to date, with his best result being 15th out of 152 competitors in Salford Sprint Triathlon in July 2025.
